• Artist Statement

  My artwork shows contained fish at a market. The work is meant to show a crowded, enclosed space, with many fish shoved into small tanks. My artwork initially started with a prompt provided by my teacher to make an artwork related to the word “box”, so I created this painting to show both literal boxes and the denotation of the word relating to “containment”. Containment is represented by both the actual containment of the fish and the crowded elements of the work itself, with not much space left in the painting.
