My mother danced folklórico when she was younger, and although I chose lyrical, I still feel like I’m following in her footsteps. Flowing From Her Flame represents the connection between us, her movements strong and bright like a flame, mine soft and fluid like water. Our styles are different, yet dance is something she passed down to me in a way that feels instinctive. This piece symbolizes how our identities and movements intertwine across generations. She is the foundation, the before; I am the continuation, the beyond. I chose to use vibrant colors and create an abstract background to portray these memories as ones that shaped who I am and continue to live through me.
