Children have a simple mind. Good people do good things, and bad people do bad things. But what happens when these traits intersect, and how is a child meant to navigate these complex relationships. Being a child with a complex childhood events, this piece represents the mind and brain connections during traumatic events and internal anger towards your own emotions. This piece is a dual self portrait with one face representing the body and the other representing the mind. Oftentimes, I’d feel anger at those who hurt me, but then guilt after for being “selfish”, believing it was unjust to feel such emotions. It felt like a constant argument between my body and mind as to what I was supposed to feel, and I got caught in the middle. Dealing with complex situations is like a game of chess, with the key to survive being learning how to balance.

Creativity is the ability to process and understand complex emotions and memories through abstract concepts and objects. Creativity allows you to connect everything around you to yourself in magical ways, and have a deeper appreciation for the world around you.
