You only yell to convince yourself of your own argument

  • My father once told me, "You only yell to convince yourself of your own argument." For a moment I believed him, and this lead me to keep my voice quiet when in a heated argument. Until one day I found myself in an argument with my mother and my voice decibels higher than it was before the argument began. It was then that I realized that my voice gets louder when I long to be understood. I feel that maybe if I speak louder, the other person would see my frustration and be willing to put themselves in my shoes. Yelling without reason is pointless, but sometimes we unknowingly get louder and this represents an attempt to be understood. The hand of breath represents this longing to be understood. My mom's rejection is shown through the teeth made of her breath.

  • Creativity to me is an outward expression of inward innovation. The ability to take what you imagine and create it with the materials provided. Breathing life into a unique artistic idea.
