Photography can preserve a fleeting moment, reveal something often overlooked, or invite us to see the familiar in a new way. The Photography discipline celebrates young photographers creating original digital and film photography across every subject and style. Whether you’re capturing a person, place, experience, or idea, we want to see what comes into focus through your unique point of view.

Meet some review panelists!

Creative Youth Award submissions are reviewed by accomplished photographers, visual artists, curators, educators, and multidisciplinary creative professionals who bring a range of perspectives and experience to the process. Meet a few of the Photography panelists who help recognize and celebrate the unique perspectives of young photographers across the Bay Area:

Rohan DaCosta is a multidisciplinary artist from Chicago and based in Oakland. He is a published author, photographer, and arts curator. Rohan currently produces an interview series title, Playdate, spotlighting artists and entrepreneurs in the Bay Area.

Andrew Owen is a photographer living and working in San Francisco. His current project, In Light Years, is an exploration of the California landscape in the era of extreme weather. Andrew was formerly the Managing Director of the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph, a National Geographic Young Explorer, Creative Editor at Instagram, and community-builder for tech startups. His newest obsession is crafting handmade photo books.

Delphine Sims is an Assistant Curator in the Department of Photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She completed her PhD in the History of Art Department at UC Berkeley with a focus on Blackness and landscape photography in the United States. For her dissertation research Delphine was awarded predoctoral fellowships at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts within the National Gallery of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She previously held curatorial roles within the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Exhibitions she curated and co-curated include, (Re)Constructing History, Around Group F.64, About Things Loved: Blackness and Belonging and the forthcoming Graciela Iturbide: Between Two Worlds.
