Beijing Opera

Alcohol-Based Markers, Paint, and Fine-liners

  • This piece is based off of a traditional Chinese opera performance, most commonly known as Beijing Opera. The performance encompasses various elements of storytelling, dance, singing, to which I wanted to incorporate in this piece. I placed great emphasis on the extensive detail seen in the performer’s headpiece, as it is what the viewer is most drawn to when watching a live performance. This piece was completed over the course of 6 weeks, in which I spent time diligently coloring and revising details. The piece has a main color palette of teal and red, the colors most commonly associated with Beijing Opera.

  • Creativity is a form of self-expression, it allows me to translate my feelings and ideas onto paper for others to interpret. The art that comes from my creativity is something that I am immensely proud of, and that I hope to showcase to my family and peers.
