This piece was inspired by a story I came up with, basically, a young king falls in love with a bird woman. He takes her back to his castle and she falls in love with him as well, but the king is obsessed. He can’t stand the thought of her ever leaving him, so he locks her up in a cage and clips her wings. He only takes her out on the day of their wedding, while standing on the cliff a gust of wind knocks her over the edge and she plummets. The selfish king can do nothing but watch as her broken wings fail to hold her, and he realizes that his obsession has caused the one thing he loves most, to die.
