bone-dry rib

Kaison M.

  • I wish I could experience the ability to mold my own skin. To, like the protagonist of this piece, form a body for myself despite the body I was born into this life with. My entire life has been full of discomfort with being in my own skin; this piece empowers all people to not be defined by other peoples’ wishes or the way you were born. The poem is inspired by a drawing I saw of a spirit surrounded by shards of pottery and sculptures, which reminded me of the idea that Adam was sculpted from clay. Capitalized letters are used purposefully throughout the poem, building off of the practice of capitalizing he and him when referring to God.

  • Creativity is one of the most vital aspects of life. It is an opportunity to express yourself freely, in a way that feels tied to your soul. Creativity is a part of every human and makes us each unique.
