Claude Debussy Piano Trio in G Major, L. III: Andantino con moto allegro

Kamil I.

  • Claude Debussy was an Impressionist and this piece exemplifies that style, characterized by whimsical melodies passed between instruments. Many different themes repeat throughout and create a dreamy mood. Because of Debussy’s impressionistic approach, there are many ways to interpret the music. During our rehearsals, we each come up with images that represent different passages in the piece. For instance, one of our trio members shared that one section made them think of a Parisian landscape, with a person solemnly looking out the window and seeing rain lightly land on the delicate flower petals in the garden below. We then discuss how to implement these ideas into our playing. By interpreting this piece in a fresh way each time, we are able to bring our own artistic voices forward. We aim to make our playing as free and unique as possible, and add a touch of spontaneity to each performance.

  • Creativity means expressing myself through my art. Through my piano playing, I have been able to explore and express a variety of emotions. I especially love chamber music because of the opportunity to create something shared with others.
