• Artist Statement

  For the Creative Youth Awards, I am submitting one of my favorite jazz standards, "Skylark" by Hoagy Carmichael. To me, jazz is more than a genre loved by devoted musicians like myself. Jazz is a way of being in the world that can shape your values, beliefs, and direction. It’s anchored in connection and collaboration, a fluid performance art that is beautifully molded to each musician. Listening to “Skylark” for the first time was a truly solidifying moment in my music journey, as my feeling when hearing its beautiful melody and instrumentation affirmed that jazz was what I wanted to pursue.   Creativity is a beautiful product of life that creates connections, relationships, but most importantly, art. Creativity is ever-present in our lives and when utilized, it creates wonderful things. I use my creative abilities to fuel my passion, to make music, and to share my joy of music with the world.
