Consolation S.172 No. 2 in E major

Jasmine G.

  • My interpretation of Liszt's Consolation S.172 No. 2 in E major evokes a self reflective and singing style. Such delicate lyricism invites a deep introspection. The phrasing unfolds in undulating arpeggios that give the feeling of calm suspended between longing and acceptance. Gently, the melodic lines carry an emotional clarity that feels intimate, stretching outward to allow small nuances to reach the listener with remarkable intensity. While working with this piece, my creative process was a conversation between the music’s sound and my intuition. I allowed the music’s gentle rising and falling to guide my interpretation, responding to shifts with choices of my own. Rather than filling in every detail with a preconceived plan, I worked in an open minded state, engaging and responding to each melodic phrase. What emerged is a piece shaped by the music’s guide guidance, which evolved from a process of contemplation, listening, and subtle transformations.

  • For me, creativity involves taking ideas and interpreting them with my own experiences. In this interpretation of Liszt, I recall the impressions made from my personal life. Creativity means a process of attentive listening. In this way, I found my creative interpretation, honoring the original composition yet still being mine.
