Don't Even Think About It

Oil paint on canvas board

  • With this piece, I chose to show the idea of climate change ignorance and what that looks like for different people. Climate change is often talked about as something distant and intangible. This is why the paintings of climate change’s effects have been put under an “Abstract” gallery; the artstyle itself may not be abstract, but the concepts and visualizations in the paintings are. Therefore, unable to make sense of the paintings, the confused skeletons show some acknowledgment but remain uncertain of the true gravity of the situation. The other two skeletons represent the people who choose to look the other way entirely and take the easy route: demonstrating total and utter ignorance. The subjects are all skeletons to emphasize that by not understanding the dire situation of climate change, or not wanting to, they are essentially dead without realizing it.

  • To me, creativity is how people express their originality and ideas in a way that's unique to them. If people start out with something simple like a thought, an observation, or following a brief, creativity is what turns that concept into something special that can have a true impact.
