The Cù Sìth

  • In Scottish folklore, the Cù Sìth (pronounced coo-shee and translating literally to "dog fairy") is a mythical hound, a servant of the fairies, and a harbinger of death. It is said to hunt in the Highlands of Scotland, ambushing travelers who have lost their way. The portfolio I am creating is based on this question: "How does mortality affect my perception of death?" and though it is quite a morbid topic, I believe I can show death and life in a harmonious and beautiful way. Through this prompt, I channeled the folklore and mythology of my family and Scotland into the piece and incorporated the stories I'd read to bring to life the twisted, chilling nature of the Cù Sìth. I am delighted to present the folklore of Scotland in such a visual way.

  • For me, creativity means life. It is an itch inside me that will not go away until I scratch it. It is a means of release for my hands (painting) and my mind (my mental health). Creativity shapes who I am in all aspects of my life.
