Don't put handcuffs on me!

  • Making this portrait I wanted people to see that this is a little girl but yet has been through so much already at the age of 6. She was a little girl arrested for wanting her sun glasses back from her teacher. The officer put poor Kaia's little wrist in zip ties and then put her in the cop car. After they took her to the Juvenile center to take her mug shot and finger prints. Now there is a Florida law named after Kaia that no kid under the age of 12 can be arrested. In my portrait I want to show the youthfulness in Kaia’s story even through the dark situation she was in. The primrose flowers represent “youth and new beginnings” while the pinks and purples also represent power, innocence and with a little bit of yellow representing hope.

  • What creativity means to me is how different everyone's brain works. We all work in different ways and are able to make and do many new things. We are able to think of things we have never before and express it in our own way.
