  • The Artist Statement, in my opinion, was much harder to write than the actual collection of pieces itself. One hundred and fifty words is either too much or too little for me to describe my literature, and my statement will never be perfect, so here goes: This collection is about just looking into a mirror. It references how growing up can feel like being a new person every day, but not necessarily a better or more accomplished one. It talks about emotions from anger to feeling left out to jealousy, and how growing up is so beautiful and can also be so ugly. Each part touches another, with similar aspects of getting to know myself. The collection is really just a snapshot; A snapshot of who I really see in the mirror, not in pictures where every flaw is visible. This collection, in a way, is me.

  • Creativity is more than just words on a page for me; each poem I write contains a part of me. Creativity is my insecurity about myself, where I can cry alone without shedding actual tears, where I can dance without being judged, and where I can be my truest self.
