Downpour

“Downpour” is the first movement of my string quartet, "A Walk in the City." My piece captures the feeling of taking an afternoon walk through the streets on an overcast day, when suddenly the sky erupts with the crash of rain. It’s a downpour, and you don’t have an umbrella. You begin to run, trying to find shelter, and finally duck under the awning of a quiet cafe. As the frantic feeling subsides, you’re suddenly struck with an unexpected and unexplainable sense of excitement. You remember playing in the falling rain as a child, and without hesitation, run out under the open sky once more. I wrote and formatted my piece in MuseScore 4, and mixed the recordings in Logic Pro.

Sometimes there is no other way to describe life without art. To me, creativity means capturing the true way I see and experience the world. It is my way of processing memories and feelings, and by allowing curiosity to guide me, I can create things I didn't think were possible.
