My dad grew up in the rural pit of California, and is an avid story teller. My bedtime stories were shaped by the memories of his life in the central valley. This poem is inspired by the descriptions of these moments. I’ve always had a strong artistic connection with my dad, as he’s always had a story inside of him. His vivid imagination and ability to evoke emotion in words has been a talent kept hidden. I write with the bravery he never had — the bravery to share my work with the world. This poem is a reflection of the past that not only shaped his upbringing, but also my own. The valley of stories will always be home for us.

To me, creativity is self-expression. It is creating your unique twist in all aspects of your life. Only you can bring to life what lies in your mind. Creativity is bravery. A spirited drive to be different.
