Flower Boy

  • "Flower Boy" started out as another flower sketch (I've been on a kick), and it quickly spiraled into a series of sketches, something that needed to be painted. The idea is a guy whose head is literally a head of flowers, how or why doesn't matter in the instance of the painting, just his existence on a blank-ish background. I realized that this is what I was trying to convey well past the midway point of the process, though, after I had gone through numerous iterations of potential backgrounds: clouds, columns, rooms, and landscapes. All of it ended up taking away from the focus of the flowers; it did, however, help build up the textured background that encapsulates “Flower Boy”.

  • Creativity to me is a simple thing: it's being able to create. Nothing more than that, just being able to take something or nothing and make something new (not novel) from it, something that wasn't there before. For better or worse.
