Homo

Eleanor C.

Sculpture, Cast by Fiberglass, Acrylic Markers

  • This large sculpture, measuring 35” x 55” x 12” and named "Homo", is meant to illustrate the apparent dehumanization of people via social media, AI, and digital polarization. The "scribbled" caricatures atop the solemn face are meant to show a rigid dichotomy between seriousness and a perceived "childishness” and how online personas and performative actions give people a digital face to hide behind, resulting in a societal air of "unseriousness" regarding serious and pressing issues. “Homo” was hand-sculpted with natural clay and subsequently oven-cast. As layers of fiberglass and spray paint began covering one another, my piece was able to come to life; it was only afterward that I made the decision of drawing atop it with acrylic markers to further demonstrate what I wanted to show through my artwork.

  • Creativity is a way of expressing my thought and my emotion, it’s the driving force of my art work, it’s my aspiration and my compassion. I’m not sure if I will become an artist one day, but I will try to embrace this world and my life with much creativity.
