Is this love?

Batul R.

  • This poem is crafted as a palindrome, with the forward and backward readings representing the clash between the heart and brain’s interpretation of love. Inspired by the often idealized portrayal of love in the media, and the reality and complexity of it in the real world, this poem seeks to personify the turmoil that I, and many others, feel. The first half, read from top to bottom, captures the heart’s idealistic view. The second half, read from bottom to top, reflects the brain’s cynical and pragmatic perspective. By mirroring these two opposing forces, the poem highlights the internal conflict that often arises when love is both a dream and a challenge. Ultimately, it asks, “Is this love?” — a question I’m still trying to answer, like many of us.

  • Creativity is freedom: of the mind, body, and soul.
