The Art of Becoming

My poem reflects how I have learned to view myself differently. I once believed I had to be perfect and fall to other’s expectations, like smooth, unblemished marble. As a result, I began changing myself reluctantly to become more beautiful, which is represented by carving the marble sculpture. However, as time went on, I realized similarly to marble, my value lied in the patterns formed over time–not flawlessness. This poem is meant to demonstrate the message that I’m not a finished sculpture; I’m still being shaped, and I’m learning to appreciate the beauty of that.

To me, creativity means using imagination to solve problems, approaching challenges with fresh perspectives and unique, original ideas.. It can look like working tirelessly to uncover solutions, or inventing new items in order to meet a need. Creativity is the inspiration and drive that pushes me to create.
