Oil paint on canvas

  • This is a portrait I painted of my art teacher. For this piece, I used oil paints on a canvas. I decided to draw my teacher because she encouraged me to make art without worrying about how it turns out. She believed that as long as we tried our best, we should feel proud of our creations. In her class, I got to be creative using different mediums in different projects, like making a dragon eye with oil pastels, and making a zentangle scrap book with ink and markers. Her class helped me see art as not just a test of technical skills, but a display of thought, intent, and creativity.

  • Creativity means using your imagination to come up with unique concepts and ideas without limit. In painting, it means being able to freely plop anything onto a canvas without worrying about making the wrong move.
