Through this piece, I combined my love for my cat and my love for art. My pet cat is pictured in the piece, looking back at her shadow, which is scraggly and undefined. I wanted this artwork to show my art journey, and how much I've improved over the years. My cat looking back represents the present and how I'm reflecting on how far I've come. The light represents the future, which is bright and full of potential for more growth. I made this artwork as a part of my AP Drawing portfolio, which explored the question: "How do I hold on to my past?" This question guides this artwork because creating art is a way for me to hold on to my past. Art is something that has always been a part of me, and always will be.

Creativity allows me to express myself and my emotions in a way that others can see and appreciate. Visual art, in particular, is a way for me to share my ideas in a form that brings me joy.
