In the portrait I did of my father, I was inspired by a copy of a Cezanne painting that my dad had done when he was in college. I tried to mimic the brush strokes and color palette but apply it to a photo taken before I was born. This version of my father is not a version I’ve ever actually known, but it still captures his likeness. By not trying to make it entirely photorealistic, I was able to detach myself from the very specific details and focus on simple shapes.

I'm not good with words. My creativity is a way for me to express myself to others but also the best way for me to communicate what I know and understand. I'm still working on my technical skills but I always have a vision in my head.
