Memories

Brandon G.

  • I interpret “Memories” as an evocative, expressive journey. When listening to various recordings of the piece, I felt as if I were on an emotional roller coaster throughout, with such delicate and intimate sections coupled with passionate and romantic passages. My goal when performing this work was to employ these general moods for my listeners to feel, but to add some further depth to the music using my own artistry. For example, in the appassionato section, I definitely kept the passionate nature in mind. However, I felt a need for a more fiery mood during the octaves, as I felt that it would create a build up from the exposition of the passage and make way for a grand release on the last octave. Through adding layers within emotions, I was able to bring out the nuance in the piece, which I really enjoyed uncovering.

  • To me, creativity is about basing your work mainly with your ideas. I believe everybody possesses this trait. Nobody is exactly the same, and letting inner feelings be the guidance as opposed to copying is what will really bring out one's imagination.
