Mongolian Lady

Misheel D.

Acrylic on Canvas

  • I painted the figure of me performing the traditional Biyelgee dance known as the "Mongolian Lady." This dance is characterized by its elegant, soft, and flexible movement. This dance is one of the deepest ways I connect to my heritage after feeling lost moving to the U.S. I use the bird as a symbol of the dancer. It purely mirrors the unrestricted beauty of the traditional dance. Through this artwork, I am conveying that my culture is not a memory left behind, but a spirit that guides me, giving my steps grace and purpose, even moving far from home.

  • I see creativity as a language that creates things without holding back anything, yet no matter what people can think of, but to express yourself freely outside of a box.
