Mural Magic: Bringing Vibrance into the KLS Community

Isha G.

Wall paints (red, magenta, dark blue, light blue, white, black, and yellow ocher), plastic containers, trays, brushes of different sizes, a drop cloth, chalk, a projector, a ladder, plastic spoons, Kilk, paint rollers, tape, water cup, sponge, Adobe Photoshop.

  • This 9ft by 12ft mural was born from a desire to transform a blank, overlooked wall into a vibrant reflection of our community’s diversity and aspirations. Driven by the belief that public art can inspire belonging and unity, I wanted to create a space where everyone, regardless of background or identity, could see themselves reaching for the stars. The process was physically demanding and emotionally challenging, especially during moments of doubt, when I questioned whether my vision could truly be realized. The mural’s central elements: the silhouettes gazing upward, the galaxy above, and the gold constellation lines, symbolize equality, limitless potential, and the shared journey of learning. The silhouettes represent all genders and ages, united in their curiosity; the galaxy embodies the vastness of possibility; and the constellations suggest that even chaos can be mapped and understood, reminding viewers that every challenge is part of a larger, meaningful story.

  • Creativity is the way I turn what I feel and notice into something others can see. It’s problem‑solving and imagination working together like figuring out how to make a galaxy on a wall for the first time. It means making meaning from mistakes, not just beauty from ideas.
