Roses

My work, "Roses" challenges the burden of conformity and loss of authenticity and urges readers to reclaim and accept their beautiful identities. My work, revolving around themes deeply personal to me, explores the corrosive nature in a life defined by the choices of others and a loss of autonomy, both an appeal and a confession. The consistent metaphor of a rose is sustained throughout the free-verse and concrete (rose-shaped: a bloom paired with the descriptions of the flower, a noose at the thinning stem/stalk, roots fanning out and showing depth) poem. This is the psychological landscape of a life lived as a puppet. It ends on a poignant note regarding the unending cycle of burial and rebirth. It compels the reader not to follow the same path of self-denial and doubt and embrace their "multi-colored petals and hues". But overall? This is who I am. This is my rose.

Creativity means that ideas just flow naturally. As one writes, they integrate into the writing seamlessly and can be tied to a deeper meaning by greater thought. The ideas should be novel and highly original, truly embodying the uniqueness of the writer and demonstrating personal voice and expression.
