Shades of Gray

Shades of Gray is meant to show how everyday life can feel overwhelming, repetitive, and drained of color, especially on stressful mornings. The rain and gray city represent that sense of heaviness we all carry: worries about time, responsibility, and everything we’re expected to keep up with. But as the poem moves forward, the small moments on the bus (a child’s curiosity, an elderly couple smiling, a stranger’s nod) start to shift the speaker’s perspective. I wanted to show how even on the worst days, simple human moments can remind us to slow down and let go of that mundane, sloggish routine. By the end, the gray isn’t depressing anymore. It becomes peaceful. The rain becomes something the speaker chooses to accept instead of fight. The poem is about finding calm in chaos and realizing that not every gray day is a bad one.

Creativity means noticing what others overlook and turning ordinary moments into something meaningful. It’s how I express emotions, make sense of life and myself, and connect with people. Through writing, I try to turn emotions into something others can recognize in themselves and to see the world with more intention.
