Shrouded

This photo was taken in Tokyo, at Planet Team Labs, specifically in a mirror-lined room filled with live orchids suspended by wires. The room felt alive, with motion-triggered flowers rising and falling according to my movements, and the smell of the flowers was thick in the air. As I walked, it felt as if I were carving my own path through the space. I had my brother explore a new area of flowers and hide amongst them, shrouded. Then, I saw my brother look up, the light falling across his face, and I took this photo. Although the viewer cannot see what he is looking at, it’s clear it is beautiful. I used this photo to demonstrate that in the room and in life, every person has a unique experience.

My creativity centers on respecting the inherent qualities of each medium. As a born maker, working with wood I shape pieces around the grain and knots; with glass I showcase the fluidity of molten material. I bring this spirit to photography, capturing the natural flow of the world through pictures.
