Split Focus

Split Focus is a contemporary ballet piece set to “Ceiling Games,” inspired by the experience of having attention pulled in multiple directions while life and the body continue to move. I wanted to capture the tension between control and release, the push and pull that shapes my daily experience. The title reflects a state of being fully present yet divided, a state that feels both human and familiar. During the choreographic process, I explored how my emotions shifted with the music’s intensity. Improvisation helped me translate the song’s mix of softness and urgency, which I was drawn to, into fluid phrases and changing tempos. Ultimately, Split Focus is about finding clarity amid chaos. It suggests that distraction doesn’t need to be resisted; instead, it can be part of expression adding unpredictability and authenticity to movement and everyday life.

To me, dance is both art and science: a language where thought, emotion, and technique become motion, demanding presence while allowing creativity to flow in every intentional yet instinctive step.
