The Adventurer’s Journey

Mary N.

  • I made this piano improvisation after one of my school’s show choir performances. I wasn’t happy with how I performed, so I turned to the nearest piano to express and regulate my emotions. It was my regret and anger at myself for not performing my best that begins the piece. In turn, it created an explorer who spends their entire life adventuring the boundless seas, untamed jungles, and immense mountainsides in search of a certain treasure. The same chord progression repeats throughout because the adventurer doesn’t rest. They need to keep searching and exploring. The improvisation represents their journey. Their determination, their struggle, their curiosity, and the beauty they’ve seen along the way. At the end of the piece, the adventurer found their treasure, but does it satisfy them?

  • Creativity is an outlet for someone to express themselves. Creativity is the spark in someone that paves the way to art. My creativity is a window to my innermost emotions and thoughts.
