This piece is meant to represent wabi sabi, the Japanese aesthetic that embraces beauty on imperfection. This digital painting was created in ProCreate on a tablet. I chose a muted color palette to convey the feeling of something aged and weathered by elements. I tried to imitate an old Japanese art style. I represented wabi sabi by making the sky rainy and not perfectly clear weather and also in the cup the fisherman is holding. The cup is mended with golden cracks, a direct nod to kintsugi which highlights the beauty of history rather than hide it. This art piece was meant to show that wabi sabi, an ancient philosophy, can exist within modern tools.
