The Immigration Fallacy

The CIA looms over the immigrants like a sun, burning a reminder that they are migrating because the U.S. government made their country unstable. They walk because of Henry Kissinger and the U.S. manipulating Latin American countries for its benefit. Chile was one of them, as the CIA backed and funded a military coup against Allende, a democratically elected president, and replaced him with U.S.-approved puppet Augusto Pinochet, crushing Allende in their hands. The immigrants walk down the mountains with the illusion of reaching the American dream, but it glimmers above them like an impossible-to-reach heaven. I’m from these people. My grandma left Colombia in search of stability. Her family witnessed the Masacre de las Bananeras, another crime on the U.S.’s rap sheet. The U.S. provokes the very migration to the U.S., which is so politicized in this climate. This perspective is often left out of the media.

Creativity, to me, means the expression of individuality. We all come from different places and have our own individual perspectives. Creativity allows us to show our ideas through different mediums. I love seeing how people from different walks of life express their individuality and perspectives through their art.
