When creating this piece, I was most inspired by the collaboration of my team. Before joining a hip-hop company, I trained in ballet for over 12 years. I never felt a true love for dance, and I felt out of place during every performance. Spotlights only felt negative and with each year I began to resent myself because of it. Finding a loving community in dance like I did here was a freeing experience. I never felt like I was competing for the spotlight but rather we made a light for each other. The song is really about liking someone that is bad for you, though you love the feeling, and to connect my experience to it, what first was harmful became my greatest joy. I am the ONE taking the spotlight.

Creativity means thinking beyond what was taught to you. It means standing out and showing your personality with everything you do. In dance, even when we are all supposed to be in perfect unison, the best dancer will always be able to show themselves in the choreography.
