Zip-tie Portrait

Zip ties

  • Through this project I communicate the impact of the recent ICE raids in the US on immigrants by creating a portrait out of zip ties. I was inspired by the ongoing deportations and raids on immigrants in the US, and the impacts on individuals, families, and communities. Zip ties are significant as they are used by ICE agents to restrain and control those they deem as “threats”. The zip ties further creates an abstraction that represents the loss of identity when taken by ICE agents.

  • Creativity is I think the most important thing in society. Creativity doesn't have to solely "making art", it can be problem solving, adaptability, making connections between the unconventional. With the rise of AI usage, we are losing our ability to critically think. But we can combat this with making art.
