The Reflection All Around, Last but Never First, and Porcelain Plate

Its a peices of artwork that express emotions people go through, and I appeal to children who feel as if they cant speak or be heard and need a writing to relate to and feel comfortable. I want them to feel at home and notice that its not just you and people are going through the same experience and we can help and hear you.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

For this piece, I was inspired by Gothic writing that we had been reading in class, and wanted to write a gothic short story about a fairy tale that I grew up hearing as a kid. I tried to remake Snow White in a Gothic style of writing, and made it from the Evil Queens perspective leading to what happened in the fairy tale.

Abrupt

This is a love letter to my friend. It is also my story. Writing this felt extremely cathartic and gave me a place to express my endless gratitude to my friend for being there for me, even when she needed someone to be there for her.

My Mom Lies During the WhatsApp Call Home

I am like many other Americans. Born to immigrant parents- experiencing a culture that seems so unlike anyone around me- feeling so out of place. Writing is a way for me to share the world that I am growing up it. The view of a honest, innocent child who lives in an immigrant family. The clash of expectation. Of culture.

A Peace of Silence

I wrote this poem for my 9th grade culminating project and read it at my 9th grade graduation. Generally, my artistic process involves coming up with a broad idea of what I want the piece to be like, and then I just start writing, taking inspiration from the story I’ve created.

Progress Will March

My goal for this was to try and effectively communicate the setting within the 500 word limit. While doing so is difficult, I think I did a pretty good job, even if I had to omit some details for brevity. One of the major things I would have expanded on more if given I had more words is that this is Sci-Fi and takes place in an alien world.

Who Am I

My original poem is about my struggles as a biracial woman with no help to navigate the word. In this poem I talk about what I heard growing up. Starting with how I looked making me not fit in. I then talked about how people said I didn’t act a certain way, the way society expected me to act.

Wild

When I start writing a story, it’s not because I have a fully formed plan of what I want to write. I usually sit down with a basic starting point in mind, and I take it from there. All I knew when I started this particular story was that I wanted a stray cat to find a home.

Fires

This was one of my first poems. At the time it was written, I had just recovered from a serious medical emergency which led to a whole mental and physical reset. One night I got the urge to create something, but I didnt know what. So I decided to try using a poetry prompt I found which said "Write a poem that has the title 'Fires'." I got to work and am very happy with the result :)

Lucky Year / House of Cards

Lucky Year/House of Cards illustrates the adolescent grapple with identity through the female lens, and the things we do to conform to societal expectations. Inspiration for this piece of writing is rooted in my experience being a woman and navigating adolescence, witnessing myself and my peers undergoing struggles relating to our identities and what exactly it means to be a woman.

The Voyage

When writing "the voyage" I was focused intently on creating a vivid image in the readers mind, as I believe that truly great stories use this too create a unique version of the story in the readers mind. I used wording in which I would not typically use, but fit the strange, psychedelic feeling I was aiming for.

Toxicity

I wrote this when I was struggling with feelings of derealization and dissociation. I didn't know how or where I could express my emotions, and so I wrote this piece with the intention of keeping it hidden away.
