Blanket Fort

Cyanotype on fabric, wooden skeleton

Blanket Fort is an installation piece inspired by the childhood forts my sister and I used to make. The work takes a house-like form, inspired by the work of Do Ho Suh, an artist who creates similarly airy, architectural works motivated by his own memories and home. The floating structure is a culmination of studies of the cyanotype (solar printing) process with different exposures, ranging from white to deep prussian blue, that can be achieved through this medium. Along the sides of the work, film-esque strips of photos of childhood appear to gradually fade down the work, commenting on the way in which these precious childhood memories also fade and distort with time.

For me, creativity means using critical thinking and problem solving to connect knowledge with personal experience. I think creativity is important because society often emphasizes conformity, especially now, and making something that's your own is increasingly important and rewarding.
