This piece is called “Drive Far”, a hip-hop heels fusion choreography I created to showcase confident sexuality. When making this piece, the concept of fire and cars came to mind and when I found the song it all came together. This piece is meaningful to me because growing up as a gay boy, I felt I had to suppress my sexuality to be safe in the world. I learned to hide my true self, believing that being gay was impure and unacceptable. I have discovered my authentic self through dance. When I choreograph I feel alive and free to express myself. This piece was a chance to show my growing comfort with my sexuality and to embody my identity. I’m allowing it to drive me in so many ways. That is why I made this piece “Drive Far”.

Creativity is freedom to play with ideas. To express myself through the language of movement that takes me beyond words. To break free and escape from whatever is holding me back. I can imagine myself on the stage and it releases the burdens of my mind.
