Almost American.

Distorted Reflections: Waking to an Unfamiliar Familiar
My essay tells the story of a character whose memories are stolen by a shadowy figure inspired by Alzheimer’s, symbolizing the way the disease erases someone’s past and sense of self. I focused on vivid imagery and sensory details to show the fear and confusion of losing cherished memories. Each scene was imagined like a cinematic sequence to highlight both suspense and emotional impact. Through this story, I hope readers feel the fragility of memory and identity, and the struggle to hold onto the moments that make us who we are.
Arroyo Breath
Arroyos are timeless features of Bay Area ecology, referring to creeks that dry up for several months of the year.
Overridden
This piece is a raw reflection of the immense academic pressure and the intense achievement culture that I, and many other teens, feel growing up in Silicon Valley.
