Little Traveler
This piece is based on a childhood photo of me at an airport, a place that always felt exciting because it meant going somewhere new.
The Weight of Control
With social media promoting unrealistic and often unhealthy beauty standards, eating and body image have become major sources of distress, especially for teenagers.
Suffocated
Suffocation is a piece visualizing the feelings that I feel whenever I’m put in a rough position or I lose control.
Swag Since ’42
This piece began as an elderly figure sitting down, but it slowly turned into something more.
First do no Harm
First do no Harm is based on the phrase "Those who would mend others, should first mend themselves."
Displacement of Status
“Inverted Tides” represents a surreal reversal of nature, where humans struggle in the sea while fish observe from the shore.
The Outer Shell
This artwork is about how the words of others stick to the shell of us and how sometimes it gets to a point where we split and the words tumble in.
Strung up by Envy
I wanted to depict the feeling of Envy in a new way- in the way I felt it.
Colors of Injera
My garment's inspiration was Ethiopian culture and cuisine, the place mats used in the skirt are hand painted and hand embroidered to make you think of the bright colors included in Ethiopian baskets.
Os Plantae
I wanted to represent the places I call home as well as my ethnic origins, but also include what has been a constant theme in my art this year, which has been bones.
Breathe In
I took the reference picture for my artwork on top of a mountain in Kyoto, Japan after a long hike.
